Our standards

The rules are simple. The responsibility is not.

This LGBTQIA+ podcast directory is a community index, not a verdict on anyone's identity or a measure of what makes a show worth hearing. These standards exist to make the directory useful without making it careless.

01

Publicly out, by their own words

We list hosts who have identified themselves as LGBTQIA+ in a public context: their own bio, their show's description, an interview, a post, or reputable reporting that treats their identity as public. We do not infer identity from a name, a partner, a topic, or a rumor.

02

A source with every listing

Every entry has a public source link. It is there so readers can see the basis for the listing, and so the person named can tell us if the information is wrong, incomplete, or no longer theirs.

03

No ranking, no reach requirement

Hosts are not sorted by audience size, press coverage, network affiliation, reviews, or cultural importance. A show with ten listeners belongs here on the same terms as a show with ten million.

04

The show does not have to be queer

This directory indexes people, not subject matter. Hosts of any kind of show can be included: sports, history, parenting, business, comedy, science, fiction, politics, and everything else.

05

Safety comes before completeness

We do not list someone because another person says they are out. If public visibility could create risk, we leave the name out. We would rather have a smaller directory than put anyone in a position they did not choose.

06

Corrections and removals are part of the work

Anyone can submit a correction. Any listed host can ask to be removed, without explaining why. We treat stale language, changed names, pronouns, show status, and removal requests as editorial work, not as exceptions.

Who runs this, and who pays for it

The Out Mic Directory is convened by Christopher Bylone — a podcast host himself, and one of the entries on this list. Domain, hosting and upkeep are currently covered by Innovation Unbiased, the belonging and People Experience consultancy he founded.

That arrangement buys nothing. There is no sponsored placement, no paid inclusion, no ranking to climb and nothing for sale. Entries sit in alphabetical order by surname, and every one links to its source so anyone can check the work.

“Currently” is doing real work in that sentence. If who pays for this ever changes, this paragraph changes with it.

What this directory cannot do

It cannot be complete. It cannot settle every edge case. It cannot replace a host's own words. It can show its sources, stay open to correction, and keep making room.

The Out Mic Directory

Hosting and upkeep are currently paid for by Innovation Unbiased. Nobody pays to be listed, and nobody pays to be left off.
